In order to articulate key policy concerns the Alliance has published a ten-point action plan for government:
Re-building the economy of Wales’ industrial communities
The industrial communities of Wales – the places once built on industries like coal, steel, and engineering – continue to lag behind in terms of prosperity and jobs. Wales’ older industrial areas are a substantial part of the country, home to perhaps half the population. But plagued by years of job loss they have often struggled. More than anywhere they should benefit from – and contribute positively towards – the economic rebalancing that is needed. They can only do so, however, if the right policy framework is in place.
The challenge is formidable:
1) Raising the employment rate in Wales to the GB average requires 70,000 more jobs
2) Bringing the Welsh rate up to the level in the most prosperous third of Britain would require 170,000 more jobs
3) The Valleys alone need 40,000 more in work to match the GB average
